Ordering Architecture in Late Antiquity
Photo Archive and Database
Welcome to the Ordering Architecture in Late Antiquity Photo Archive and Database. This innovative digital research tool provides high-resolution images and a catalogue of the architecture and its ornamentation produced in cities of the Mediterranean region from the 3rd through 7th centuries AD. The aim of this website is to disseminate knowledge concerning the architectural orders of Late Antiquity, the methods of their creation, and the rationale for their use by individuals and civic communities. It comprises the results of an on-going research project at The University of Edinburgh, which addresses the ideology and economic pragmatism of newly produced architectural sculpture in the late antique cities of Asia Minor, Greece and the Balkans, the Italic Peninsula, North Africa, Egypt, and the Levant.
